Namibia

Few sights are as impressive as the undulating and seemingly never ending sand dunes of Namibia. In fact, those in Sossusvlei are the highest sand dunes in the world. These stark mountains of sand offer spectacular sunrise and sunsets. The Namib Desert is said to be the world’s oldest desert…. and you can feel it!

This stark region is populated by desert elephant and rhino, and has a bare and imposing beauty in its vast horizons, contrasting colours of dunes juxtaposed by navy oceanic waters, and vivid blue sky.

The Skeleton Coast – known as “the land God made in anger” – is a seemingly inhospitable piece of Africa. The Skeleton Coast is at its finest from January to March but this is an excellent reserve to visit any time of the year.

Damaraland is east of the Skeleton Coat National Park and southwest of the Estosha National Park. It is an arid area of rugged scenery. Twyfelfontein was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007 and consists of great sandstone formations rising from the Huab River valley and boasts one of the largest rock engravings on the African continent. The infamous Welwitschia plant may also be seen here. Wildlife is sparse. Wildlife has adapted to the near waterless environment and could include desert elephant, desert black rhino etc. Best time for game viewing is from April through to December.

Etosha is another popular tourist attraction – it is a well known game viewing area and is especially good in the dry season (May to November). This park located in the northern part of the country is also known as “the place of emptiness”. Etosha is famous for its huge population of elephant which can easily be seen in the centre of the park from July to September. Ongava Game Reserve, located near the southern boundary of Etosha, is the top privately owned rhino breeding area in the country.

Swakopmund is rich in German colonial architecture.

Windhoek is the capital and administrative, commercial and educational centre of Namibia. Windhoek is also the gateway for most chartered and scheduled flights.

One has to do a dolphin cruise and enjoy champagnes and oysters – there is a good chance of seeing heavyside and bottle nosed dolphins as they frolick.

Namibia has a unique culture in Africa, with its Himba Tribes, Hetero people, The Bushmen, as well as a strong Germanic influence.

Kaokoland: – if you wish to spend some time of the Himba people, then this is the area to visit. One however still need to respect the Himba people. It is customary to wait a distance from the village until someone welcomes you in. Also when coming across a village that has been deserted, please do not remove anything as the Himba people are nomadic and will probably return at a later stage.

While we have a number of recommended camps and lodges in Nambia, we are also guided by each client’s individual preference.
